loved this post so much it made me feel seen and warm inside 🩷 there's something to be said for embracing the home life but still not becoming completely dependent on your partner - it shouldn't stop you from pursuing your hobbies etc. just because you're now mainly financially dependent on them and i think it's so special that nick sees that! 💓 sending love and blessings your way xx
What a gift to your family that you are a homemaker! My husband and I often marvel how parenting is a full time job and we feel at times our kids have gotten shortchanged by the fact that we both work (though it is from home, it's often stressful to have work and home be the same place and to sometimes work long hours!). I can imagine how awful it must feel to be "put in a box" by others.
"They do not see that I make sure our home is filled with nourishing foods (which takes so much time, hats off to personal chefs). They don’t feel the peace that has been cultivated now that I have the time to make sure the home is almost always clean. They also don’t see that I don’t get bored - I’m always working on something (my own choice to do so)."
- Yes, this is how we've structured life on the road - my husband keeps working since his job allows remote work. As a filmmaker, I can't exactly work on productions while traveling (at least not that I know of yet! :D). But we really wanted this nomadic life, so I had no hesitation about pausing on new projects.
Thing is, without my constant planning, researching, organizing, cooking, and managing our mobile life, none of this would work smoothly. So while one of us keeps us afloat financially, there's so much more that goes into making this lifestyle possible. The workload just looks different.
Such a balanced, introspective piece! What a lovely nudge encouraging people to choose the path that works best for them. The media—and society as a whole—love to put labels on things. This is a refreshing take on why it’s healthy to drown out the noise and let your own heart lead.
Side note: I, too, have fallen into the sourdough rabbit hole 😂
I feel you when you said you do not wish to be called a 'homemaker' because of the societal definition of it. People are quick to make assumptions, and I'm so happy you're living your life the way you like it (bonus points for your wonderful husband!!). sending love your way 💌
I related hard to this. I am a stay at home by choice and I found to hard to explain to others why I made this choice, stopping my work which I loved to do. People just don't get it.
Kriti, it's so admirable that you were able to make that tough decision for yourself and your family. Their truly is so much beauty in being stay-at-home ❣️
Frankly I sometimes dream about being a homemaker and all the time that is there to explore my creative potential . I’ve grown to understand not to be judgemental in any way and see every person’s choice to be very valid in their own lives . Thanks for this conversation like post🌺
Thank you SO much for the kind words, Beth! I’ve been trying to find my ‘people’ on here, so I thought I ought to spill my truth even if some don’t like it. Also, those are Pinterest photos but thank you for those compliments as well. I will put a disclaimer under the photos. I need to work on posting my own photos - just takes so long to look thru the files 😂💛

thank you so much for sharing this, Claudia! that is so cool that your family lives nomadically! definitely subscribing to hear more about that.
Such a thoughtful take on the “trad wife” tradition!

Ankita, you are so right that people love making assumptions. I appreciate your kind comment and Nick says thank you for the bonus points 🤣❤️

My children are still so young but I can’t wait to be able to dedicate more time to creativity. Your sewing room looks so beautiful!
